Friz Quadrata

Friz Quadrata is a typeface first designed in 1965 by Ernst Friz with later styles contributed by Victor Caruso and Thierry Puyfoulhoux. The design features flared serifs and distinctive open bowls on the lowercase characters such as the “a”, “b”, “d”, “p” and “q.” It’s a popular typeface that you have probably seen everywhere without realizing it. It’s used for the TV show Law & Order and two of my favorite punk bands growing up, Bad Religion and Black Flag, both use Friz Quadrata set in uppercase for their logos.
