Kabel is a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Rudolf Koch in 1927. It has been published by various foundries over the years under different names, including Geometric 231, Koblenz Serial and TS Koblenz. ITC published ITC Kabel in 1975 with an exaggerated x-height, which was typical of the phototype of that era. Kabel Black, a heavy version with short descenders, was used frequently in the 1970s. In 2016, a comprehensive update of Kabel was designed by Marc Schütz and published through Linotype as Neue Kabel (shown in the specimen), in nine weights with matching italics.
